Franny’s Crew is a firefighter cancer awareness charity created in memory of Captain Chris “Franny” Francis, a 25-year veteran of the Mehlville Fire Protection District who lost his battle with cancer on April 2nd, 2020. Franny’s Crew aims to raise awareness about the risk of cancer among firefighters and to provide support to first responders and their families who are struggling with cancer.
Firefighting is a dangerous profession, and one of the most significant risks that firefighters face is the risk of cancer. According to recent studies, firefighters are at an increased risk of developing several types of cancer, including lung cancer, mesothelioma, and leukemia, due to the toxic chemicals and carcinogens they are exposed to on the job. Unfortunately, many firefighters have lost their lives as a result of this occupational hazard.
Franny’s Crew provides critical grants and support services to first responders and their families who are struggling with cancer. These services include prevention training, health and wellness courses, and estate planning seminars. By providing these resources, Franny’s Crew aims to alleviate the financial burden on first responders and their families and to help them navigate the challenges of a cancer diagnosis.
